CTLC 2013 Conference

Cross-Timbers Library Collaborative

The Cross Timbers Library Collaborative held its first ever conference on Friday, August 16, 2013, at the University of North Texas Gateway Center in Denton, Texas.  The conference  included presentations by faculty, librarians, and staff from regional institutions on many topics of current library programs, ranging from service programs to digital library innovations.  This conference was  an opportunity for sharing information among members of the library community in the greater DFW region.  We invited presentations on innovative approaches to current library challenges, workshops on specific topics, round table discussions on contemporary library issues, and other proposals for training and sharing information.

Dr. David CrosonKeynote: Dr. David Croson of SMU delivered the conference keynote address, entitled “Entrepreneurial Strategy for Academic Information Services.”  Dr. Croson is Professor of Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and Business Economics at the SMU Cox School of Business. From 2010-2012, he served as Program Director for the Science and Innovation Policy (SciSIP) program at the National Science Foundation and, in 2012, was the co-chair of the Science Policy Interagency Working Group in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Featured Panelist: Sherilyn Bird, director of the Texas Woman’s University Libraries, is the past president of the Texas Library Association (TLA), the largest state library association in the U.S.

Other Presentations:
Debra Hanken Kurtz is the new director of the Texas Digital Library (TDL), a consortium of academic libraries in Texas that provides shared services in support of research and learning.  She will join other noted technology speakers discussing large scale digital library services in Texas.

The CTLC conference  featured 45 other speakers from libraries in the greater DFW region.  Presentations covered a wide range of topics.

The purpose of the CTLC Conference is to promote information sharing between libraries in the Cross Timbers / DFW area and explore the possibilities of future collaborative projects.  Libraries are at an important crossroads where creativity and experiments should be encouraged.
